Jetpack (by Automattic / WordPress) is a plugin that can be installed in your self hosted WordPress website. It provides some additional features that can be turned on and off, but the one we’re focusing on is the Publicize module.
Publicize makes it easy to share your site’s posts on several social media networks automatically when you publish a new post.
The Jetpack module allows you to automatically send your blog posts to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Path and Google Plus.
The idea behind the module is that you can get the word out about a new blog post on your social channels without having to go to them and create custom posts for your audience.
Publicize Is For Lazy Site Owners. PERIOD.
I’m not going to sugar coat anything. There’s no benefit to using Publicize unless you’re lazy and just don’t want to do the work. Hell, your promoted posts on your social media DON’T EVEN LINK BACK TO YOUR WEBSITE!
Publicize reposts a portion of your article on WordPress.com, and then links your social media to that post, not your website.
Your site receives NO BENEFIT from using Publicize. No Link Juice. No SEO increases. Nada. Zilch. Zip. NOTHING.
Since all the social media posts are linked to the WordPress.com copy of your article, you don’t get the benefit of traffic increases, social signals to the search engines or increases in backlinks to your site.
Solution: Do It Yourself
Seriously, it only takes an additional five to ten minutes, and if you have social share buttons on your site, use them yourself to share the post. Alternately, you could use an application like Hootsuite, Buffer or Tweetdeck to send the posts out as well.
